Lovely Twist

Try a New Technique #149
I have never done the split negative technique before, so today I got a chance to work on this challenge. The challenge is to do two different colored paper (not black and white). I chose River Rock and Blue Bayou and I used basic Gray for my main panel. I confined my split negative in a circle just to create a different point of view and I think it worked out okay.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Lovely as a Tree, All Holidays
Paper: River Rock, Blue Bayou, Basic Gray, Whisper White, Brocade BG DSP
Ink: White Craft, Basic Gray
Accessories: Tafetta Gray, Silver Brads, Photo Corner Metal
Tools: Photo Corner punch, Corner Rounder Punch, Non SU Circle Punch,Detail White EP, Heat Gun

Beautiful Thing

Featured Stamper #47
I was inspired by Danielle's work that I could not pass the opportunity to cased one of her cards.
Click here for the card I cased. I have to create samples for this set, so I changed the stamps but kept the same layout. The flowers came out really nice except there was quite a bit of work involved. I used circle punches and popped dimensionals to give it a 3-D look. I have to changed the sentiment too, because I have straight lines and it needed some dimension.
RECIPE:
Stamps: A Beautiful Thing
Paper: Ruby Red, Groovy Guava, Ginger Blossom DSP, Whisper White
Ink: Ruby Red, Groovy Guava, White Gel Pen
Accessories: DS Ribbon, Rhinestone brads, Stickles
Tools: Tool kit for piercing, Scallop Punch, 1/2" 3/4"13/8" Circle Punches, Non SU circle punch1/16 Punch

This set is a favorite of mine and you will probably see me using it a lot. The sentiment is from Celebrate Everything, another versatile stamp that will grow on you. For today's challenge, using 1 stamped image, 1 sentiment, 2-3 DSP, 1 embellishment and only white paper.
I used Whisper White, allowed to do sponging but no major tools, One of the DSP I used to stamped the flower. I maximize the use of the ribbon to embellish my card.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Embrace Life, Celebrate Everything
Paper: Whisper White, DSP Bali Breeze

Ways to Use It #146
Here is a challenge that you might want to consider doing-Using Staz-ON with your projects. I made this card using 2 ideas for Staz-On. The main panel was done using Staz-On White on transparency. It really creates a nice look to it. I used Staz-On Black to stamp the flowers on Shrink Plastic. That was a fun thing to do.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Embrace Life
Paper: Basic Gray, Basic Black, Very Vanilla,DSP
Ink: Basic Gray, Staz-ON Black and White,Wild Wasabi

A Beautiful Thing

Sketch Card #156
Color Challenge #146
Finally, I got the chance to do a little stamping after not doing any posting the past few days. I decided to combine yesterday's and today's challenges. The color challenge yesterday-Green Galore, Real Red and Glorious Green, not really my favorite combo, but I decided to play around it. I used this DSP since it compliments this new stamp set from the preview. I have a new toy-the Nestebilities and thought I'd use it for this challenge.
RECIPE:
Stamps: A Beautiful Thing
Paper: Green Galore, Real Red, Glorious Green, Whisper White, DSP
Ink: Real Red, Green Galore

Life

Color Challenge #145
I love doing the Color Challenge. The CC today are Wild Wasabi, Elegant Eggplant, and So Saffron. I used the set Embrace Life which is my most favorite in the new Spring-Summer 2008 catalog. I thought it would be hard to incorporate Wild Wasabi but with a little touch of it, it blend in perfectly. The main Flower was trim and popped in dimensionals. I love how it looks with the fern behind.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Embrace Life
Paper: Wild Wasabi, Elegant Eggplant, So Saffron, Very Vanilla
Ink: Wild Wasabi, Elegant Eggplant

Framed Trees

Try a New Technique #147
Here's a nice way to add dazzle to your cards.
For today's TLC- use Dazzling Diamond Dust to your card. I cut an oval frame using my Oval Cutter. Using another paper, center the oval frame and do sponging. I ran my Brayer sponge about 2-3 times for this to get an even color distribution. I then stamped the trees using mellow Moss. The big tree was stamped in Always Artichoke. After that, placed your cut oval frame again and using Versamark pad, go around the frame making sure that you covered evey area. I sprinkled the DD shortly after.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Lovely as a Tree, All Holidays
Paper: Always Artichoke, Mellow Moss, Whisper White, DSP
Ink: Always Artichoke, Mellow Moss,Versamark
Accessories: Wide Organdy Ribbon, Metal Corners, Silver Cord
Tools: Dazzling Diamonds, Oval Cutter, Sponge Brayer

A Little Bird Told Me...

Featured Stamper #45
I am feeling better today ( a bit under the weather) and not too sick to stamp. Finally, I got to used this stamp set from the preview. A Little Bird Told Me... is such a cute stamp set; not much coloring but certainly has a lot of potentials. This is my card that I cased from LZappa, the FS for today. She has an awesome gallery.
The main image is popped with dimensionals. I used the silk flower (sent by my mystery Elf) and put my circle tag sentiment.
RECIPE:
Stamps: A Little Bird Told Me

Ink: Staz-ON,Temting Turquoise,Apricot Appeal

JOY Wreath

Limited Supply Challenge #146
I rarely do White Based cards, which is what the LSC challenge is. You can use colors but the white card basically should be your main color. I wanted to do a wreath which I really don't have any. The Heartfelt Thanks stamps set is the stamp I used to create this wreath. I stamped the solid stamp first in Old Olive and then stamp it again (stamp off) so the colors are not too dark. I added the red dots shortly after. I used Encore Gold Embossing for the outline stamp and did a little embossing. The Tres Chic was stamped thereafter. Since I do not have enough room for a sentiment, I cut the inside of the wreath and added the Joy sentiment.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Heartfelt Thanks, Small Script, Tres Chic
Paper: Whisper White, Real Red. Old Olive
Ink: Real Red, Old Olive, Mellow Moss
Accessories: 5/8 red Grossgrain Ribbon, Brads, Stickles
Tools: Slit Punch, 1/16 Punch, CB

Embrace LIFE

Ways to Use It #144
I was so excited last night when my long awaited order from the Spring-Summer preview arrived. Of course, I have to sample the new stamp sets. I chose the Embrace Life set. I love the feel of Asian theme in this set. The challenge on SCS is to make Monochromatic cards. These cards are so fun to make. My color choices are Groovy Guava and Really Rust and using the DSP Ginger Blossoms, the background speaks for itself. I popped the 2 flowers in the main image for a 3-D look. The flowers were colored with Aqua Painter using Groovy Guava with color diluted first and went over with a darker color. I ran my Blush Blossom marker for a shadowed look on the flowers then I added the Stickles last.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Embrace Life, Canvas BG
Paper: Groovy Guava, Really Rust, DSP Ginger Blossoms, Very Vanilla
Ink: Groovy Guava, Really Rust, Blush Blossom
Accessories: DS Ribbon, Copper eyelets,Copper Cord, Stickles
Tools: Crop-a-dile, Aqua Painter

Bonjour Friend

Sketch Challenge #154
I was a little sad that some really nice Stampin'UP DSP are being discontinued. This is one of them ( Brocade Background). I was inspired to used this for the SC and the stamp Carte Postale.
For the main image, I used the X-acto knife to cut an X on paper, scored to create this frame, then added the brads from the Antique HPH.
I keep forgetting to use my Pretties so I thought I'd used it for this card.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Carte Postale
Paper: Always Artichoke, River Rock, Chocolate Chip,Very Vanilla
Ink: Always Artichoke, Chocolate Chip, River Rock
Accessories: Pretties, Antique Brass HPH, Satin Ribbon
Tools: X-acto knife, Ticket Punch, Tool Kit, Glue Dots, Dimensionals

The colors for today's color challenge-Pumpkin Pie, Rose Red, and Certainly Celery. I combined 2 backgrounds-Canvas stamped in Pumpkin Pie first followed by the Tres Chic stamped in Vanilla Craft ink. The Certainly Celey panel was stamped in Floral BG.I used Garden Silhouettes for my main image stamped in Pumpkin Pie and Rose Red. I used the Antique HPH and the silk Pomegranate ribbon.

Glittery Snowflake

Featured Stamper # 44
Todays FS is a very talented stamper. Her (Charlene) gallery has wonderful collections of cards that you can feast your eyes on. Here is the card I chose to cased. I used the CB embossing for the main BG. I stamped snowflakes for the BG panel in colors of Night of Navy and Soft Sky.
The focal image is stamped in Night of Navy. The snowflake punch was punched twice with my main colors and mounted with brads and dimensional. I added ribbons and brads for my finishing touches. See Tutorial below on how to do the Glittery Window.
RECIPE:
Stamps: The Snowflake Spot,Flexible Phrases
Paper: Night of navy, Soft Sky, Whisper White
Ink: Night Of Navy, Soft Sky
Accessories: Organdy Ribbon, DS Ribbon, Brads, Rhinestone brad, DD, silver cord
Tools: Corner Star Punch, Snowflake Punch, Cuttlebug/folder,1/16' Punch, Circle Cutter,
Laminating sheet, Dimensionals

Glittery Snowflake

Glittery Window Tutorial

(Pic. 1) Stamp snowflake on white paper. Use a Circle Cutter for your circle frame. Stamp image on the circle frame. Trim laminating sheet so it will cover your circle frame. The laminating sheet (back part) has the grid lines.

(Pic. 2) The laminating sheet (front part) has the shiny side.

(Pic. 3) Peel off the laminating sheet as shown in pic and lay
the back part of the laminating sheet with the grid line face down.
You want the shiny side so when you attached the sticky part of the sheet, it will not stick to the paper.
Glittery Window Tutorial Continued

(Pic. 4) This is how it should look once you lay the laminating sheet. Peel off the back part of the laminating sheet and add glitter.

( Pic. 5) This is the part where you attached the stamped Snowflake in the back of the circle frame. You can use a regular tape to do this, making sure that tha image is in the center.

(Pic. 6) Here is the finished Glittery window.

A Little Note

Inspiration Challenge #105
I had 2 Christmas Parties from my stamping group yesterday; that would explain the reason why no posting from me. It was a lot of fun but I am glad it is over. Next on the list I will be working on my Christmas cards for mailing.I did take some time to do the Saturday IC. Here is the inspiration. I used the Stem Silhouettes for my main image and used Blush Blossom for some shadowing effect. I added the stripes (DSP) and circles (Itty Bitty set)for the background. It needed something else in the bottom of my card, so I added the cute sentiment.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Stem Silhouettes, Itty Bitty BG, In My Thoughts
Paper: Certainly Celery, Purely pomegranate, Wgisper White, Cutie Pie DSP
Ink: Purely Pomegranate
Accessories: DS Ribbon, Brads

Trees and Glitter

Ways to Use It #143
Sketch Challenge 153
I combined 2 challenges again, yesterday's Sketch and today's ways to use it -Tape of any kind. I really don't have any decorative tape, so I used my very reliable Mono Adhesive tape aka SNAIL. I ran it through the Not Quite Navy paper and poured Dazzling Diamonds. The main image is from the Tags for All. I stamped off the trees except the middle one with Always Artichoke, added the star brads. I used just a little sparkle on the trees and saying but it's hard to see it in the pic.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Tags for All, All Year Cheer 1, Peaceful Wishes
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Mellow Moss, Basheful Blue, Whisper White
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Always Artichoke, Bashful Blue
Accessories: Narrow Organdy Ribbon, Light Blue Gingham

Spent Time...

Color Challenge #143
Featured Stamper #43
Because of work, I missed some SCS challenges and trying to catch up with them. The FS last Sunday was RoseAnn, and I really wanted to cased her cards. For today's CC, I cased one of her cards (click here)using the color challenge-Old Olive, Certainly Celery, and Summer Sun. I used Time Well Spent which seems to be the appropriate set. I stayed with Old Olive and Summer Sun for my main colors, and only used Certainly Celery DSP for the background and Marker for coloring. I added Stickles last on my flowers.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Time Well Spent
Paper: Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Summer Sun, Very Vanilla, Celery DSP
Ink: Basic Black, Summer Sun, Certainly Celery

It was defnitely raining and pouring from my side of town yesterday-non-stop!!!! If you live in Az, that is a big thing for us here. After doing this card for the IC, it was hard to find a good lighting. The background was stamped using the Itty Bitty Backgrounds, and Aida BG. I used a small strip of the Dashing DSP and added the tag from flaky friends tag and used marker instead to omit the To and From.
I used the sentiment from Cute Converse set.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Flaky Friends, Cute Converse, Itty Bitty Backgrounds
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Real Red, Soft Sky, Dashing DSP
Ink: White Craft, Real Red, Not Quite Navy, Soft Sky
Accessories: Clothespin,DS Ribbon, Star Brads, Red Brads, Hemp

Little Snowman

Limited Supply Challenge #144
It is so gloomy today, it is even amazing how I even got myself out of bed. I could have slept but the phone has been ringing non-stop. So, I decided to make a cup of coffee and do the LSC challenge. The challenge is to use miniature stamps, and this little guy is perfect for it. I dressed up my little snowman with the paper piecing technique using the SU DSP. I made an oopsie though, we were only to used 1 embellishment- and I just added my stickles without thinking (not enough coffee or still half-asleep) but I decided to leave it at that.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Merry and Bright, The Snowflake Spot
Paper: Real Red, Soft Sky, Close to Cocoa, Whisper White
Ink: Real Red, Soft Sky, Close to Cocoa
Accessories: Red Brads, Stickles

Paper: Real Red, Old Olive, Whisper White
Ink: Real Red, Old Olive, White Craft
Accessories: 5/8 Old Olive Grossgrain Ribbon

Wishing YOU...

Sketch Challenge #152
I am in the Christmas mode this whole December, so my cards will probably be about spreading holiday cheer with glitz and sparkle etc.,etc.,etc. This is the most recent stamp set purchased three weeks ago and is finally out of the box. Dashing paper sets this card in the mood and that is where my whole choice of color scheme is based on-Old Olive, River Rock and Real Red. So you can't really go wrong with that. I used White Craft for the Old Olive background and stamped snowflakes that came with this set. The trees and snowman is colored with Aqua Painter. I added Crystal Effects for the star (last time I used stickles with colored ink, it tends to bleed ). I did used Stickles for the tree and for the snow effect. I wanted to incorporate the North Pole saying, so I took this stamp from the Perfect Presenation set, and did some paper piercing in the circle.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Wishing You Cheer, Perfect Presentation
Paper: Old Olive, River Rock, Real Red, Very Vanilla, Dashing DSP
Ink: Old Olive, River Rock, Real Red, White Craft, Staz-ON Black
Accessories: Red Grossgrain Ribbon,Red Brads, Stickles, Crystal Effects
Tools: Tool Kit, Aqua Painter, 1' and 11/4 inch Circle Punches, Large Oval Punch, Window Punch, Dimensionals,1/16' Punch

The trees were done using the Masking technique.I added alternating stickles on the greens and the whites. I chose the SA Whimsy, seems to be a perfect background. I used the same set but off set it a little from her original card so I can fit my sentiment.
The paper is cut 51/2 by 81/2 folded and I score just about an inch or so then folded the bottom part, distressed and attached the DS Ribbon. I used the DSP for the background. I used a lot of the Circle Punches and the small oval punch for the sentiment. I also did embossing on the hat using White Craft and Detail White EP, and added the microbeads for the finishing touch.

Snowflakes

Limited Supply Challenge #143

Ways to Use It Challenge # 141
What a day today. Did anybody got their shopping done today? I personally take this day to try and get my shopping started, making it a point to wake up early and get some good deals. But I never seem to get the day planned right. I get sidetracked... a lot. Does anybody have some tips for me to make shopping a little bit organized?
By the time I got home, I did not have much time to do the challenge. I really want to do real stitching on my sewing machine, ended up doing the faux stitching. I love the LSC today, using neutral colors. with just a touch of color. The snowflakes in the background were stamped in Craft White, Purely Pomegranate and Basic Gray. I was really tempted to use Purely Pomegranate Paper in placed of the Whisper White but I just stayed with the Neutral theme.
RECIPE:
Stamps: The Snowflake Spot, All Holidays, All in a Row
Paper: Sahara Sand, Basic Gray, Whisper White
Ink: White Craft, Basic Gray, Purely Pomegranate
Accessories: Satin Ribbon
Tools: Stamp-a- majig

and may the special meaning of this day be shared with
family and friends.

Peace, Love, Joy

Christmas Card Challenge 07
I made this card for this challenge with the SC151 as my inspiration from yesterday. I also love the way Ann put the color combo together (Pretty in Pink and Cranberry Crisp) I did some minor alteration and used Bravo Burgundy instead. I stamped the background with White Craft and Bravo Burgundy ink , added the oval punch on opposite side of the card, and held it with white brad. The White paper was embossed using the CB folder. I did used my Circle cutter to creat the 3 different sizes for my sentiment. I attached the 2 ribbons together with glue dot and added the stickles last.
RECIPE:
Stamps: The Snowflake Spot, All Holidays
Paper: Bravo burgundy, Pretty in Pink, Whisper White
Ink: Bravo burgundy, White Craft
Accessories: Narrow White Organdy Ribbon, Burgundy Grossgrain Ribbon, White Brads, Glue Dots, Stickles

Friend

Sketch Card #151
This card is for today's SC challenge ,also used earth tone colors to reflect the favorite lipstick that I used for the JAN08VSNMINI5 challenge. The challenge HERE is a pretty simple sketch. I used The Au Chocolate DSP and opted for the 2 different colors of paper; like the effect of the contrasting colors.I distressed the Groovy Guava paper although it's hard to see in the picture. I used the piercing tool for the Kraft paper since I really did not want to stamp on the paper itself. I used pad to stamp the flowers and stem and went over with a Chocolate Chip marker and cleaned my stamp image each time I stamped it. I used Stickles last after everything is put together for the flowers.
RECIPE:
Stamps: True Friend
Paper: Groovy Guava, Chocolate Chip, Kraft, Very Vanilla
Ink: Groovy Guava, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: 5/8 Chocolate Grossgrain Ribbon, Brads, Stickles
Tools: Tool Kit, Cutter's Kit

Time Well Spent

ALOHA!!! How appropriate to get this set (Time Well Spent) because that is exactly how I felt after being gone for 7 days vacationing the Big Island of Hawaii. I can share you a little bit of the fun and memories we had, spectacular places we've been, what exotic fruits to eat, the name of the new volcano, where you can "hang loose", and where you can drink Free Mai Tai's ,but you have to be there and experience it and make your own memories. I wasn't quite ready to come back but I can tell you, it sure was a time well spent, every minute of it.

I love the sketch challenge last week, so I decided to incorporate it with the color challenge. I used the DSP for the background and added the white brads. The swirl was stamped in Sahara Sand on Whisper White Paper. I used for kinds of punches for the circles and mounted them on dimensionals.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Priceless, All Holidays
Paper: Whisper White, Kraft, Purely Pomegranate
Ink: Sahara Sand, Purely Pomegranate
Accessories: DS Ribbon, White Brads,

It's MY Birthday !!!
Speaking of birthdays, I am feeling generous and in a "gift giving" mood and with my counter getting close to 7,000 I am giving away this Blog Candy !!!!!

So when I say Let's Play,it's not about guessing my age. I wanted you to GUESS THE DAY I WAS BORN in November? There are only 30 days in November, so this should be easy. Here's how to play:

1. Only one guess per person
2. If no one guess the exact date, the closest date will be chosen.
3. If there is a tie, then the winner will be chosen in random.

Over The Hill

Yours Truly !!!
Yep, that's me! Another year older. As Maxine says, Don't let your birthday bother you. Just think of it as putting another year "behind" you. That's where I put all of mine. (LOL). Don't you just love her?

My friends at work and fellow stampers gave me a Surprise Birthday Party and wouldn't you know it- I was !!!!! TOTALLY CLUELESS !!!

My dear friend, Barbara I'm sure and more friends at work were in on this together. They managed to keep it it a secret especially after the change in plans when I told them I was going on my vacation 2 days early. So, they had to changed the date. I got a good " Toast and Roast" from friends that knew me way back then, when I was still young and sweet (now old and crochety...not really!) Anyway, they did an awesome job in keeping me (young at heart) that day. My Big Thanks to Everyone !!!!!

Holiday Cheer

Try a New Technique # 142
This is totally new to me-Japanese Stab Binding, but I still wanted to try it. I used the Spiral punch first, added a strip of Real Red paper and glued it behind the kraft paper. I used hemp to thread it through the holes using the Japanese binding technique. I kept my layout pretty simple and in keeping up with the holidays , Loads of Love stamp set seemed the perfect choice to spread some holiday cheer. I stamped the truck in Staz-On using Bashful Blue ink. I colored it lightly with Basic gray using Aqua Painter. I added the Black Jumbo Eyelet and Red ones for the tires, mounted it in dimensionals. The tree I colored in Wild Wasabi, added some dazzling diamonds on the branches and decided to also do it in the Kraft paper. The embossed dots in the Real Red strip are from the Crop-a-dile.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Loads of Love, Aida BG
Paper: Whisper White, Kraft, Real Red, Basic Black, Bashful Blue
Ink: Staz-On Black, Wild Wasabi, Basic Gray, Bashful Blue
Accessories: Bashful Blue and Red Grossgrain Ribbon, Black Jumbo eyelets, Red Eyelets, Hemp, Dazzling Diamonds
Tools: Crop-a-dile, Spiral punch, X-acto knife, Glue Pen

M in Merry

PSG118
Here is a card that I did for Nancy's weekly challenge-Making a simple card using Designer Paper. Click here to visit Nancy's blog (Paper Smiles) if you wanted to play along. I don't have to think twice which DSP to used. This Dashing DSP is sooooooo cooooooooool !!!!! I sent this to my friend who recently got this set and thought she could use it for idea.
I ended up using this little snowman in Merry and Bright set from an idea that I got from my friend Tammy. I stamped the image and used 11/4 punch, used 13/8 punch for the Real Red paper. Then I added the scallop in Old Olive and use the 1/16 punch for the holes. I added the photo corner, decorated it with Red brads and mounted it in dimensionals. I used the Defining Alphabet and stamped off the word Mm and added the sentiment. If you know me, you know I am into glitter, so I ended up adding just a touch.
RECIPE:
Stamps: Merry and Bright, All Year Cheer 3, Defining Alphabet
Paper: Old Olive, Real Red, Very Vanilla
Ink: Old Olive, Real Red
Accessories: Red and Always Artichoke Grossgrain Ribbon, Red Brads, Stickles
Tools: Circle Punches, Photo Corner Punch, Scallop Punch
